I have watched an unusual number of movies in the recent past, esp. Bollywood movies...here's a recap:
Guru: An Abhishek Bachchan powered saga of business tycoon Dhirubhai Ambani. Bachchan is very like his father in many of the scenes...and also very DiCaprioish-Aviatorish in certain scenes...
Salaam-e-Ishq: Jumbled pastiche of six couples afflicted with various ills and stumbling blocks in their paths...funny in parts, almost ad-film spontaneity on occassion...
Kabul Express: Lovely visuals and a heart-tugging story-line set in the rugged landscape of Afghanistan. Kudos to Indian filmmakers for making a film in Afghanisan with Afghan, Pakistani and Indian crew.
Eklavya: Vidhu Vinod Chopra's grandiose attempt at dealing with a tale of courage and fealty, hackneyed...
Iron Island: An Iranian movie about the Sunni Arabs of Iran finding a home in a rustbucket, an oil tanker moored just off the coast. Powerful. Splendid performance by Captain Nemat...
The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie: Luis Bunuel's quirky take on high society and wannabes?
A Very Long Engagement: a touching, tortuous quest by a supposed dead soldier's fiance to find out the truth behind his disappearance in the Battle of Somme...
