But it is interesting how St.Paddy's (aka St.Patrick's Day, in some parts of the world...) in the US has been co-opted by everyone -- as long as you drink beer, that is, I would say, you're in...
And that is just as well in this melting pot of a country where restrictive, narrow identities can never survive if they have to be popular also. It also reflects on the (generally) inclusive nature of American celebrations: you're Indian, no problems, you're wearing green and I see you're having a great time...so...Happy St.Paddy's Day! So not only are there Irish Irish in the US, there are Italian Irish, Polish Irish, Jewish Irish, Armenian Irish and Chinese Irish -- in fact, on this day, everyone is Irish!!
As an Indian, I do have another Irish connection, that bypasses green beer and shamrock and leprechauns...I am "constitutionally" Irish, at least in spirit ;-) and inspiration...
